Dr. Timothy Huckaby
Dr. Timothy Huckaby, Medical Director for Orlando Recovery Center, is a clinical expert, and a triple board certified physician in Pain Medicine, Addiction Medicine and Anesthesiology. A graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Medicine, Dr. Huckaby completed his residency in anesthesiology at LSU and received additional training at Brigham and Women’s, Harvard Medical School, prior to completing his addiction medicine fellowship at the University of Florida. While at UF, he also earned his certification in Transcranial Magnetic Brain Stimulation and accepted a position as an assistant clinical professor at the University of Florida where he treated patients for chemical dependency detoxification, and pain disorders. Shortly thereafter, he became the Director of Addiction and Pain Medicine, and director of the intensive outpatient chemical dependency treatment program at the UF Health Florida Recovery Center at Orlando Health.
Dr. Huckaby serves as the President of the Florida Society of Addiction Medicine and has been the chairman of committees for the International Doctors of Alcoholics Anonymous. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and is the author of multiple chapters in textbooks and training manuals in addition to peer reviewed scientific papers, abstracts, and practice guidelines.
Additional career highlights prior to specializing in addiction medicine include being named Chief Resident at LSU, Chief Fellow in obstetric anesthesiology at Brigham and Women’s, Director of Obstetric Anesthesiology at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital of New Orleans, and Director of Obstetric Anesthesiology at Arnold Palmer Children and Women’s Hospital in Orlando.
Dr. Huckaby has spent his career helping people in times of crisis, providing both expert care and compassion. He is passionate in his belief that addictions are treatable diseases and that as addiction experts we must carry this message to all patients and all physicians, and lead the way with continued innovations that make real differences in patients’ lives.
Associate Medical Director
Dr. Jennyffer Miller is a Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist specializing in all areas of psychiatry, with a focus on pharmacology, addiction, public psychiatry, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. Dr. Miller graduated from Saint George’s University School of Medicine and Public Health with a Medical degree after obtaining her Masters of Public Health. She completed her residency at New York Medical College at Metropolitan Hospital Center in Manhattan where she served as Chief Resident of her program. She received additional training outside of residency to become certified in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy along with other nominated top scholars in New York City.
Dr. Miller has extensive experience treating mental illnesses and substance use disorders in a broad spectrum of settings including outpatient, inpatient, and Emergency care. She encourages and implements a multidisciplinary treatment approach including therapy, medications when necessary, and alternative modalities such as meditation, animal therapy, and living an active lifestyle (exercising, yoga, etc).
Director of Operations
As Director of Operations of Orlando Recovery Center, Troy brings more than 20 years’ experience working in the fields of mental health and substance abuse dependency. He has held positions in Juvenile Justice and Dual Diagnosis facilities as a therapist, Clinical Director, and Program Administrator. Troy displays a professional and hard work ethic where his passion to help others is evident.
Troy specializes in chemical dependency, conduct disorder, oppositional defiance, anger management, grief and loss, family conflict, depression, anxiety, trauma, and issues surrounding self-esteem.
Troy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a minor in Social Work from Utah State University and a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Phoenix. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Addictions Professional, Certified E-Therapist, and Qualified Supervisor in the State of Florida.
Cortina Peters, Clinical Director for Orlando Recovery Center, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Board Certified Professional counselor, Certified Life Coach, Registered National Addictions Professional, and an AASECT Certified Sexuality Educator. Ms. Peters completed both her Master’s in Mental Health Counseling and her Bachelor’s in Psychology at Nova Southeastern University. Ms. Peters started her career in the field of sexual health education and overall wellness over 15 years ago. Ms. Peters has been providing professional counseling services since 2008. Some of the past employers include (CAP) The Comprehensive Aids Program and Planned Parenthood of South Florida.
In 2009 Ms. Peters was appointed Director of Training and Clinical Operations for 3rd Step Wellness Group, Inc. overseeing 2 programs in 3 counties. Following that, Ms. Peters decided to take a position as Regional Director for Memory Training Centers of America the largest national provider providing memory training services to individuals with mild to moderate memory impairment. Ms. Peters oversaw the entire Florida division. From 2010 to 2014 Ms. Peters was an adjunct professor for South University teaching in the Undergrad Psychology Department. Through her consulting firm that she owns and operates, Ms. Peters has helped with the startup of numerous Substance abuse facilities in South Florida. Because of her dedication to the field and passion to help individuals in need, for two years she provided pro bono services to individuals without insurance who were living in halfway houses.
Ms. Peters is an active member of FMHCA where she sits on several committees. Since 2010, Ms. Peters has focused all of her attentions and efforts to the field of addiction and recovery. Specialty areas of Ms. Peters include but are not limited to Addiction, Relationship issues, sexuality and intimacy issues, and mood disorders. Empowering individuals to become and be better individuals is a passion of Ms. Peters. This passion was the spring board that caused her to launch Boundless Living Coaching, Counseling, & Consulting a counseling firm aimed at helping individual live to their optimum potential.
Utilization Review Manager
As Orlando Recovery Center’s Utilization Review Manager, Lisa works with a dedicated staff to ensure patients receive appropriate levels of treatment within the highest standards of care to facilitate successful recovery processes. Lisa holds a Bachelors Degree in Criminology, Sociology, and Psychology from Florida Southern College, and a Masters Degree in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Lisa is a Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor, and is passionate about alleviating the suffering of those afflicted with addictions, mental illness and criminality. She has been a vigorous community advocate for adult literacy education, homelessness prevention, criminal deterrence and reentry services.
