First Choice Rehab & Addiction Treatment Coverage

Last Updated: September 21, 2023

As a health insurance company, First Choice addiction treatment coverage is extensive, with specifics based on your policy.

Many insurance companies, including First Choice, will provide coverage for policyholders needing addiction treatment. A professional addiction treatment program can include inpatient and outpatient rehab. There’s been a lot of understanding about addiction’s roots as a chronic disease, so insurers now provide much more coverage to treat it than they did in the past. At Orlando Recovery Center, we are in-network with most major insurance companies. Our Recovery Advocates can help you verify what’s covered through your First Choice plan so you can take the first step toward a life without the impact of addiction.

First Choice Provider Overview

First Choice, or First Choice Health, provides health insurance coverage to around a million people. First Choice is a preferred provider organization or PPO; doctors and medical professionals operate it. If you have this insurance, the company works closely with treatment providers to make necessary services available to policyholders.

First Choice Plans and Coverage Levels

There are a few different types of plans available from First Choice, which include:

  • A Basic plan includes the option to see any network provider to receive covered services, and the plan pays around 80% of your costs after you meet out-of-pocket responsibilities.
  • The Preferred plan has a lower deductible and yearly out-of-pocket maximum, covering up to 90% of treatment.
  • There’s also the Preferred Plan Plus, although it doesn’t always cover rehab costs.

Does First Choice Insurance Cover Drug and Alcohol Rehab?

One of the misconceptions many people have that hold them back from getting addiction treatment is that they don’t realize insurance will usually cover the costs. Your insurance coverage depends on where you live, your particular policy with First Choice, your treatment center and other details. Overall yes, First Choice will cover drug and alcohol rehab after you’ve met your out-of-pocket requirements.

Does First Choice Cover Inpatient Rehab?

For most people, an inpatient stay is the first step in their rehab plan. During inpatient rehab, you live onsite, where you can focus on healing and recovering holistically, free of triggers or distractions. First Choice covers inpatient rehab for policyholders, but you have to contact them or our Recovery Advocates for the specifics of your coverage and what you’ll need to pay out-of-pocket.

Does First Choice Cover Outpatient Care?

A continuum-of-care approach includes multiple levels of addiction treatment. As you’re ready, you progress into less intensive and more flexible programming, often on an outpatient basis. As is true with inpatient rehab, First Choice will cover outpatient care for policyholders in most cases. Your outpatient rehab program could also be your first step if you have a milder, shorter-term addiction or can’t attend an inpatient program.

First Choice Mental Health Services Coverage

Mental health services can include therapy and medication. You might also have a mental health diagnosis if you have a substance use disorder. This is a co-occurring disorder and is very common in people with addiction. A rehab program should address your mental health needs to promote recovery outcomes. First Choice does offer mental health services coverage for talk therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy. You might also have coverage for specialized therapies like eye movement desensitization and reprocessing or EMDR.

Addiction Treatment Options for First Choice Members

You could participate in many levels of care at Orlando Recovery Center as part of your individualized treatment plan. Among the addiction treatment programs that are often covered for First Choice policyholders are:

  • Medical detox helps you safely and comfortably move through the withdrawal process.
  • In intensive inpatient and residential programs, you live onsite and receive comprehensive treatment.
  • Partial hospitalization programs are like a hybrid between inpatient and intensive outpatient treatment.
  • Intensive outpatient programs at Orlando Recovery Center include living onsite.
  • Outpatient rehab offers more flexibility but with continued support and access to services and resources to help you stay sober.

First Choice Treatment Duration

When you go to a rehab center, your treatment duration will be based on your mental and physical needs. No one’s addiction, experiences, or treatment plans are the same, but common rehab stays are 30, 60 and 90 days. At Orlando Recovery Center, the average duration of treatment is 45–60 days, which applies to all care levels. First Choice may cover most of your stay based on your treatment plan and needs.
